National Center for Environmental Research (CNRE) – Madagascar (2023)

The National Center for Environmental Research (CNRE) received a SWOT Grant in 2021 that allowed them to conduct initial sea turtle surveys along the coast of the Besalampy region of Madagascar. These surveys revealed that hawksbills, loggerheads, and greens use the coastal areas as foraging habitat and beaches for nesting.

This year, CNRE is expanding upon their previous surveys to determine the populations statuses, habitat utilization, nesting sites and densities, and identify threats to sea turtles in this region. These assessments will help to inform conservation strategies and raise awareness about threats and potential solutions among local communities.
