Blue Corridors for Turtles (BC4T) Small Grants Fund

Grant Opportunity

We will be awarding a total of $35,000 USD and 5 satellite transmitters (2 leatherback and 3 hardshell) to support projects that engage local communities in research-driven initiatives that align with the goals of the Blue Corridors for Turtles (BC4T) project. These projects should aim to fill critical data gaps on marine turtle connectivity and distribution, enhancing our understanding of nesting locations, migratory patterns, and genetic connectivity in preparation for defining Important Marine Turtle Areas (IMTAs)

These grants will be disbursed by State of the World’s Sea Turtles (SWOT) in conjunction with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and Wildlife Computers

Applications are being accepted through DATE. To apply, see criteria and application instructions.

What We Fund

Priority will be given to projects aligned with BC4T objectives, particularly those targeting areas identified as critical for marine conservation or that address known data gaps in marine turtle research and conservation. Priority will be given to transboundary and regional projects, those that foster collaboration among partners, and that actively engage local communities.

About BC4T

Blue Corridors for Turtles is a global initiative bringing together research institutions, non-profits, corporations, government agencies and local communities to conserve marine turtles. The project aims to map marine turtle movements and threats to pinpoint populations most at-risk. The project seeks to identify critical habitats globally for all seven species of marine turtles, and will build upon the Regional Management Unit led by the IUCN Marine Turtle Specialist Group (MTSG) to advance conservation strategies for targeted marine turtle recovery efforts. BC4T is led by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), in partnership with the Convention on Migratory Species Secretariat (CMS), the University of Queensland, ShellBank, SWOT, and the Collecte Localisation Satellites group (CLS–Argos), supporting the mission of the MTSG Group.
