Organizational Partners
SWOT is a partnership led by Conservation International (CI) and the IUCN Marine Turtle Specialist Group (MTSG), but the lifeblood of the effort is the network of more than 400 data contributors that contribute data to the SWOT database—collectively known as the “SWOT team.” These data providers, authors, photographers and communicators come from 75 countries to provide the only global perspective of sea turtles’ conservation status.
The SWOT initiative was conceived in September 2003 by members of CI, the MTSG, Duke University’s Marine Geospatial Ecology Laboratory, and the International Sea Turtle Society.
